Understanding Dentures and Partials
Dentures are removable dental devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Custom-made dentures are made to fit your mouth, restoring the aesthetics and functionality of your smile. There are two types of dentures: partial dentures and complete dentures.
Complete Dentures: These are used when the entire arch of teeth (upper or lower) is missing. Complete dentures are further divided into conventional dentures and immediate dentures. Conventional dentures can only be made after the gums have healed and the teeth are removed. This usually takes several weeks. Immediate dentures are prepared in advance, and they can be worn immediately after teeth have been removed. However, adjustments may be needed as the gums begin to heal.
Partial Dentures: These are used when there are still some natural teeth left in the upper or bottom arch. They consist of replacement teeth that are attached to a base in gum-colored plastic. The denture is held in place by a metal framework. These dentures not only fill the gaps left by missing teeth but also keep other teeth from shifting.
Benefits of Partials and Dentures
Dentures and partials have many benefits.
- Restored Functionality: Dentures allow you to speak and chew properly, improving your quality of life.
- Improved Appearance: Modern Dentures are designed to improve your smile and facial appearance.
- Support of Facial Muscles: Dentures support the facial muscles and prevent the sunken look that is caused by missing teeth.
- Increased Confidence: A restored smile can help you feel more confident when interacting with others in the workplace and socially.

Our Denture Services
Whittier Dental Studio offers a variety of denture services that are tailored to your needs. Our experienced team, led by Dr. Amir Jamsheed, will help you navigate the denture process and ensure you get the best care possible.
Consultation and Evaluation
A complete denture is a set of artificial teeth that replaces all the teeth on either the upper arch or the lower arch. The dentures are made to fit you perfectly and give you a natural smile. Complete dentures are made in several steps.
Initial Consultation: During your first appointment, Dr. Jamsheed will examine your dental health and discuss your preferences and needs. He will then make impressions and measurements of your mouth to create a custom-fit denture.
Dentures Are Made: A dental laboratory creates your dentures based on the measurements and impressions. This ensures the dentures are comfortable and natural-looking.
Adjustments and Fitting: After your dentures have been made, you'll return to Whittier Dental Studio to receive a fitting. Dr. Jamsheed ensures that your dentures are fitted properly and makes any adjustments necessary to maximize comfort and functionality.
Care after Dentures: Regular follow-up appointments are important to ensure that your dentures are still fitting and looking good. Dr. Jamsheed can advise you on how to maintain your dentures for their long-term durability.
Prepare The Tooth
Partial dentures can be a great option for patients with some natural teeth left. The artificial teeth are attached to a base that is gum-colored and held in place with metal clasps or precision attachments. Partially dentures are made by:
Assessment and Consultation: Dr. Jamsheed evaluates your oral health and takes impressions of your gums and teeth. He will help you decide on the type of partial denture that is best for you.
Fabrication: A dental lab will use impressions you took to create a partial denture that fits well and is similar in color and shape to your natural teeth.
Fittings and Adjustments: After your partial denture has been made, you will be scheduled for a fitting to ensure that it fits correctly. Dr. Jamsheed makes any adjustments necessary to improve comfort and functionality.
Maintenance: Regular check-ups will help to maintain the fit, function, and appearance of your partial denture. Dr. Jamsheed can provide you with instructions on how to clean and care for your partial.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures are a great option for patients who want a more secure and stable solution. These dentures are attached to dental implants and provide a solid foundation for improved chewing efficiency.
The process includes: Evaluation & Planning: Dr. Jamsheed evaluates your oral health to determine if dental implants are right for you. This could include X-rays or other diagnostic tools.
Implant Placement: The implants are placed surgically into the jawbone. It takes time for the implants to fuse with the bone, a process called osseointegration.
Denture Manufacturing: After the implants are fully integrated, the denture is custom-made to fit the implants.
Fitting & Adjustment: An implant-supported denture will be attached to the implants for a secure and stable fit. Dr. Jamsheed ensures that the denture is comfortable and makes any adjustments necessary.

As a kid I had so many bad experiences with dentist's and recently when one of my teeth deteriorated and broke, I knew I had to get some sort of implant and I was dreading it. Came into Dr Trinh’s office and I was told my choices. A Bridge or an implant, he broke each option down. I ended up going for the implant because I did not want to chip into the other 2 teeth required for the bridge. I’m about 3/4 of the way into the implant process (I just got the screw in) and it has been a 10/10 process so far. Him and his team always calmed my concerns and are very kind. Super excited to get my smile back :). Would totally recommend it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How many years will my dentures last if I take good care of them?
Dentures can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years with the right care. Dentures can become less comfortable over time as your mouth changes. Your dentures will continue to function well if you have regular checkups with Dr. Jamsheed.
Can I eat normally if I have dentures?
You can eat with dentures. It may take a little time for you to get used to them. As you get more comfortable, introduce harder foods. Avoid eating foods that are very sticky or hard, as they can damage your dentures.
How do I take care of my dentures?
Dentures need to be cleaned daily to remove plaque and food particles. Brush your dentures gently with a soft bristle brush and soak them in a denture cleaning solution overnight. It's also important to clean your gums to maintain your oral health.
Is it normal to have loose dentures?
Dentures can become loose over time due to changes occurring in your mouth. Whittier Dental Studio can help if your dentures are no longer comfortable. Dr. Jamsheed will adjust, reline, or replace your dentures if they do not fit properly.
Can I sleep wearing dentures?
It's best to remove your dentures at night. It allows your gums a rest, and prevents irritation. You can also thoroughly clean your dentures when you remove them.
What should I do if my dentures are broken?
If your dentures break, contact Whittier Dental Studio immediately. You can do more damage by attempting to fix them yourself. We will assess the damage, and make the necessary repairs or replace the items as required.

Regular dental visits are important even if you have dentures. We recommend a check-up at least once per year to monitor your dental health and ensure that your dentures are fitting properly.
